Our community

'South' community

Our school community enjoys a strong sense of belonging and ownership over the direction and continuing success of our school. Known affectionately as 'South', families, staff and students work together to protect the reputation for our unique capacity to provide a community that is inclusive and dedicated to supporting students with diverse learning needs. Visitors frequently comment on the palpable sense of community and care that is demonstrated in the school. Respect for self, others and place is evident in our relationships with each other, ourselves and our school.

Gladstone South State School is an active member of its local community with regular predication in many

events. These include:

· Student performance in sporting, cultural and academic fields – participating at a school, district and state level.

· NAIDOC week celebrations and school involvement in the community event

· ANZAC day service and participation in the Local ANZAC parade and ceremony

· Botanic to Bridge fundraising event

Many opportunities to be involved in the life of the school are presented throughout the year. A couple of the highlights are;

Whole school assemblies

Our Friday assembly is a highlight of the school week.  Our student leaders deliver the school assembly each week. Alongside the Principal's address and other announcements, each week we celebrate the achievements of our students through the presentation of certificates. Every staff member, student and parent is invited to join in the whole school song, a different song each week.

School disco and school concert

Each year the whole school community comes together in fun and celebration for the  school concert (summer) an term discos supported by the PandC. Both are a highlight of the school calendar enabling the school to showcase the talents of the families, staff and students. Gladstone South loves a party!
